A software engineer in Pune was defrauded of Rs 37.5 lakh by cybercriminals who promised him a franchise of a prominent fashion-retail chain. The fraudsters collected money for a non-objection certificate and deposits after sending a convincing, albeit fake, company email. The victim realized he was duped when the promised inspection team never arrived.
