Bengal govt declares July 6 holiday for Syama Prasad Mookerjee's birth anniversary

West Bengal will observe July 6 as a state holiday annually to honor Syama Prasad Mookerjee's birth anniversary. The state government plans a Rs 200 crore commemoration, including a 125-ft statue, museum, park, and library. Mookerjee, founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and India's first industry minister, is remembered for his "priceless" contributions to Bengal. The Centre also continues its year-long celebration of his legacy.
